About the Artist
Sydney-based emerging artist, Emma Cocks has been experimenting and honing her skills in art for several years. She began her career in art with oil painting in 2017 and, in 2022, began to explore ceramics and hot glass through her studies at the University of Sydney, where she is due to graduate this year with a degree in visual arts and philosophy.
Her works explore ideas of self-expression and femininity in the modern world. Aesthetically, her paintings often centre around the use of white paint, and explore the ways colour can be worked in to create either near-white imagery or contrastingly bright elements. With years of experience in figurative painting, Emma has also recently begun experimenting with more abstract ideas in painting.
Her work in ceramics also takes on a light aesthetic with various designs and concepts worked into porcelain clay. In glass, she favours a clear or frosted aesthetic that creates a ghost-like appearance in her pieces. This leans into the ideas of the past and personal development that she has often explored in hot glass, and has a feeling of vulnerability in its transparency and openness.
